Last updated: 2026-11-07

This policy explains what personal data Belta Books collects through this website, why, and what rights you have.

Who we are

Consilience Media Limited, trading as Belta Books, is the data controller for personal data collected through this website. It is a company registered in England and Wales (company number 04214205). Registered office: Unit 5, 305 Whitley Road, Whitley Bay, Tyne and Wear NE26 2HU, United Kingdom. Contact us about privacy at Email us.

What we collect

When you buy from us. Your name, email address, delivery and billing addresses, phone number if you give one, and what you ordered. Card details go straight to our payment provider; we never see or store them.

If you create an account. Your name, email address, password (stored encrypted) and saved addresses, plus your order history.

When you contact us. If you use our contact form we collect your name, email address and message. We use them only to reply to you and to deal with your enquiry.

When you visit the website. Our servers record standard logs, such as IP address, browser type, the pages requested and the time of the request. These logs are used to run and secure the website.

Cookies

We only use cookies the website needs to work: to keep your basket, keep you signed in, and remember the country you ship to. Your light or dark theme choice is kept in your browser's local storage. We don't use advertising or analytics cookies.

Our legal basis

We process order and account data to perform our contract with you, and keep order records to meet our legal obligations (such as tax records). We process contact form data and server logs on the basis of our legitimate interests in responding to enquiries and running a secure website.

Who we share it with

We use these service providers to run the website and the shop. They process data on our behalf and only under our instructions:

  • Hetzner (Hetzner Online GmbH, Germany) hosts the website and its database in the EU.
  • Bunny.net (BunnyWay d.o.o., Slovenia) stores and delivers images.
  • Stripe processes payments, including Apple Pay and Google Pay.
  • Print Trail packs and posts your order, so it receives your name, delivery address, email address, phone number (if given) and the items ordered.
  • Mailgun (Mailgun Technologies, Inc.) sends order confirmations and account emails, from its EU region.
  • Basin (usebasin.com) receives contact form submissions and forwards them to us by email.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile checks that contact form submissions come from a person, not a bot. It may process technical information about your browser and device to do this.

Some of these providers may transfer data outside the UK. Where they do, they rely on safeguards recognised under UK data protection law, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or an adequacy decision.

We never sell your personal data.

Some book pages include a video. Nothing loads from the video service until you press play. When you do, the service (YouTube, Vimeo or Bunny.net) receives your IP address and browser details, and YouTube or Vimeo may set their own cookies under their privacy policies. We use YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode and Vimeo's do-not-track setting.

How long we keep it

We keep order records for six years to meet our tax and accounting obligations, and account details until you close your account. We keep contact form messages for as long as we need to deal with your enquiry, and for up to 12 months afterwards in case you get back in touch. Server logs are kept for a short period.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • ask us to correct or delete it
  • object to or ask us to restrict how we use it
  • ask us to transfer it to you or another organisation

To use any of these rights, email Email us. We'll respond within one month.

Complaints

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, please contact us first. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
